Introduction

Over the past four years, Partnership members have documented the scope and impact of overweight and obesity in our state. They have assessed barriers to promoting healthy eating and active living. They have also identified existing nutrition and physical activity programs and evaluated opportunities for intervention.

This website is a result of the Partnership's work. It aims to share recommendations and interventions for moving Massachusetts toward the national goal of assuring that at least 95% of children and 60% of adults are at a healthy weight by 2010. This website, along with the Partnership's five-year plan (The Health of Massachusetts: A Coordinated Response to Overweight and Obesity) are designed to raise awareness of the scope of the problem and to spur concrete action to combat the crisis.

The Partnership's five year plan is organized into areas that correspond to the major spheres of influence that impact our eating and physical activity choices.

From the Berkshires to the Cape, government officials, public health professionals, and community leaders are working to help our towns, schools, and families to make changes that promote healthy eating, active living, and healthy weight.
